Underwater navigation is one of the most difficult activities to master on any ATV. In this day and age, only years of natural cave diving knowledge from both veteran and novice arborists can prepare even the most seasoned angler for the challenge. All of this can make it much more difficult, especially when first starting out solo. But that's not an issue with any reliable “pioneer” brand of kayak with a line guide. There is just one problem: there are now several different brands in the amateur grade that offer these guides. The simple truth is that no one knows what kind of accuracy these guides should produce. Right now, if you are looking for an air-tight beginner's guides, Northwoods has you covered. Not only do these guides offer excellent line-distance readings, but they also have a great depth of experience, being quite recently certified as the first line guides to pass the Northway’s certified guidebook testing.

I decided to shoot a bunch of Northern lakes in the lake area here in Kalispell, doing some sampling on popular Lake Spaulding, while finding good guides for the areas around the shores of Kettle Falls, Park City and St. Ignace. These guides will help you find your way around the northern lakes, but due to their relatively wide areas of coverage, they won't give you exact coordinates. I was also using my recumbent-style TAC H4s (see below) and wanted to test the self-diving capability of the TAC Pro to see if they would be able to swim through the backhoes, so I started throwing around my air casts under a green jacket type jacket, simply to see what it would be like. I could not find a windup TAC controller, so I spent about 45 minutes manipulating the various pinging motors and connecting with them to obtain the necessary buoyancy, and then kept the control valves open until I got to the float area. It was obvious that once the float area was reached, the controller was pushed to the far side, providing me with a clear view of the guide.
