This Week's Blogs:
Hi Folks, Back in the day, I think the concept of Red Sox fanning the little sisters of Joe Nathan might have been more interesting than any Red Sox-related item in the entire newspaper... But I digress...
Anyway, back to the show. It was a terrific time, the guys had a lot to catch up on and they did well presenting their points. Plus the radio guys did well re-telling the old legends that never saw the light of day. Dave Dombrowski is a classic example of the third guy, he holds everyone's interest as you watch the play, he plays the angles (his brain is a lot different than your brain) and he does his best to bring the relevant news to the table. That's pretty much it for me, let's get to the action report.
First, we have the Chris Cervenka "mugging" incident. The facts:1) There were 11 security guards/guards at the Beacon seating area; 2) By no means was this an isolated incident, but a group of people were mugged in similar fashion 4-7 seconds after the media release put out about the "security guard who died." This all resulted in 2,000 extra raffle tickets being printed. That took 5 hours to print. The total cost to produce this was $125 per ticket. Even if you don't win, you help establish a precedent with the media by proving that the cost of security is not worth the money paid to pay for it.
2) We then move on to the original Red Sox ticket printing problems, again, the attack took place right after they announced the security guard who died and said the players can take the seat behind the outfield wall. This caused a traffic jam and slowed the event - most of the fans that were able to get to the gate were not able to attend due to the traffic. First, it was the security guards who attacked and killed, how did we expect anyone to believe that? Two others showed up and punched the guy in the face. Now, keep in mind that both of these were security personnel, either from the area or from across the street. Again, there will be someone better looking than me who makes a comment. And just to give the ballplayers credit, they looked the part.
