Friedrich Dehumidifier Recall
Date: 2011.10.07
Dear All,
As suggested by several users, I decided to share my experience with "Friedrich Dehumidifier Recall" to hopefully save more as a useful information to help me at times when the situation seems almost hopeless. The warning was posted by Eric, a representative for Deutsche Telecom's Fritz network, Germany which automatically stops charging for data that is used up after a 24 hour usage period. Thus, it is easy to initiate the process. Here is what the Fritz Net said on its official website:
"About a year ago customers of Deutsche Telekom [fritznet.de - German webmail and phone company] experienced a technical issue that resulted in connection loss. Several hours of reporting followed quickly until the problem was finally explained to the team responsible for the Fritz network. All of them agreed that Fritz’ customer base had been affected but that there was no change in the Fritz service. This was written in the complaint from Fritz regarding this specific situation."
The company claims it has found out that Fritz telecommunication equipment is made in the US and uses both US and UK components which have not yet been updated with new Australian license. It says there are still available to install the latest versions of the software so we really have to wait for the results to be announced by Fritz about the status of the problem.
In an earlier email, the Fritz internet employees wrote:
"The first thing we've done is tried using resetting your billing account - by doing that, you will be immediately charged for any use of the product past 24 hours"
For this to work, one would need to reset the billing account by using the internet banking account to temporarily register a local billing address for the account (although technically the reset did not work) and then plug the product into the Fritz telephone system.
The Fritz technicians found out that Fritz does not use custom firmware and is just one component in a large system. Therefore, they can't give instructions about troubleshooting the problems, such as turning on the air conditioning fan, disabling the device without the unit having battery life below 120 hours, or other options to improve the cooling effect of the unit.
