What is it about this week? Everyone that knows or has heard of Zcash says their coins are on the brink of becoming the dominant cryptocurrency. There are countless rumors and innuendoes about its possible upcoming resurgence, there are even comments from its previous discoverers, NDA'ed by that old guy that always shares our water cooler...or those that were way higher in the market but who needed a break since everyone went to a pump and got burned.


But when looking at the huge chart of Bitcoin and CoinmarketCap, what do we see? The biggest thing for me over the last few years is that the number of transactions per second hasn't varied more than a 1 percentage point. That is due to the big spike in value going directly to miners, just as everyone told you it would. From here forward, it seems like everyone is seeing the same changes in the numbers.


1,178 transactions per second compared to 558 from 0.7%.


Surely, these are not two significant changes. But then, why are we talking about blockchain technology when we can talk about this in terms of a classic stock index?


The price of cryptocurrency is not a changing value of raw physical commodity, it is a performance of the stock market. What kind of stock market is cryptocurrency? It is almost a platform for the cryptocurrency market.


You can't talk about cryptocurrency in terms of dollar amounts. It is the stock market's stock. The cost of a quarter is the amount of bitcoins that you will get in the economy because someone decided they want to buy a lot of bitcoins.


It's the same with any asset. Just like cars, they're all-in vehicles. They're fine in terms of gas cost, but they're not a real practical means of getting groceries. They are platforms for value. For money.
