Living The Life: Lindsay Musgrove
I started off writing poems at the age of 20. Several years after I started i was fortunate enough to find employment as a story editor for magazines in Mexico City, where I lived while working on an EP. After a few months I had a company run by a former Mexican Peace Corps volunteer (I have no idea who he is) so our second EP was written during lunchbreaks. When I finished it I called it “Goodwill,” thinking I would be back in Mexico City with my family soon. It wasn’t to be – I went back to the States three months later.
Over the years I moved more and more across the nation, which led me to my eventual final destination - Texas. So yes, every year we are writing together; although, sometimes it is just one person doing the writing.
And My Favorite People/takes from Backwoods Folk and Country Song
I am born in Alabama but did live in Jamaica for most of my childhood. But when I became a mother, there's nothing better than watching your daughter outgrow the "wild" nature around her feet.
Climbing Kilimanjaro
I don't know how many of you have seen my Kilimanjaro climb this summer but it was incredibly hard, and the process is really inspiring. I was up high for a month last year, so I wanted to make sure I gave back something to myself that day. So I ate some delicious protein, drank a lot of water and took some zinnias and pakodzukis and let them bloom until my throat hurt. At night I would sleep outside right next to Kilimanjaro. I'm not too fond of getting my feet wet. I'm not going to leave without leaving something behind that I can always turn to when I want to feel like I've been climbing. I'm not even going to leave with just a proud plaque or a sweet little photo. That would be cheating.
It was so worth it. Next time you're watching the sunset or walking out of town, consider giving back. And if you visit my site here, go hang out with your family or friends. They'll appreciate it more than you will.
