If you're a Southern artist, it's next-to-impossible to say "Yeah, I've worked for Joe Blow." Even if you're working in the land of Beale, Graham, Jackson and Sanders, it's still impossible to talk about your job with the work that has been done by artists from the state, but even more impossible to actually apply for a job as an abstract painter—not to mention prove yourself to the folks at an art store.

Ginsburg is a legend in her own right, but there are many wonderful women who never got the chance to meet the legendary jurist and historian. They get the opportunity now to thank her for all the work they've made and the help they've been able to give those artists who have had the opportunity to display their work in national and international galleries.

So if you happen to be a female Southern artist, please get in touch—name some women who have helped you along the way, or know someone who has. All this will take place in the Museum of Fine Arts, Louisiana, on a Thursday, July 26th. Make sure to send in your work!

One of the first Georgia art circles to recognize Ruth Bader Ginsburg was in 1991. She was the guest speaker at a public forum called A Visual Workroom, organized by Georgia artists Laura Bignotti and Linda McCullough. The Women Artists Program at UGA then created an exhibit of women living in Atlanta who have tried to make do without career structure. Ruth Bader Ginsburg stands out. Her early activism and intellectual skill led her to be an agent and advocate for women's rights and equality.

After the GSA organization started, it was referred to as "the Women Artists Coalition." Six years later, the group moved to North Carolina and has developed into a professional organization that handles all aspects of professional women artists' careers. Currently the Atlanta chapter includes more than thirty full-time regional offices, and three off-campus member groups: Art In Action, The Black Women's Collective and Grouped In Atlanta. The Atlanta branch also has another off-campus member group called New Art Industries, Inc. ~~ Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a legend in her own right, but there are many wonderful women who never got the chance to meet the legendary jurist and historian.
